Depending on the schedule, most Cup Series drivers spend their Saturdays either practicing, resting, fulfilling sponsor obligations or actually watching the XFINITY Series race.
But this Saturday, sandwiched between practice in the morning and qualifying this evening for Sunday’s Brickyard 400, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Kyle Larson and Denny Hamlin opted to hit the golf course at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
While the XFINITY drivers are flying around the 2.5-mile track, these guys are taking advantage of the Brickyard Crossing golf course, which borders the track and actually has four holes inside of it.
Most tracks on the schedule don’t offer these kind of amenities — although Daytona International Speedway has a lake for fishing in the infield — so it’s not terribly surprising these guys wanted to play a few holes.
They love to golf so much that Stenhouse, Larson and Hamlin are in an amateur but super intense golf league called The Golf Guys Tour, and they play with recently retired driver Michael Waltrip and NBC Sportscasters Rick Allen and Steve Letarte, among others.
