Specs Comparison: OnePlus 5 vs OnePlus 3T vs OnePlus 3

A few hours ago, OnePlus finally announced the successor to the OnePlus 3 at a global event. The new handset skips the number 4 and is called the OnePlus 5. The OnePlus series has always been about offering near-flagship level specs and almost half the price of most tier 1 flagship smartphone brands. With each passing year and iteration, however, the prices of the flagship OnePlus handsets have been steadily increasing, and this time is no exception. The final price of the OnePlus 5 for the Indian market yet to be officially announced (the launch happens tomorrow, June 22), though.

As for the OnePlus 5, we have covered all the details of the handset in our detailed launch story. In this one, let us focus on how well it stacks up against its older siblings  – last year’s OnePlus 3 and the OnePlus 3T. To make this easier for you, we made this little spec-chart for you.

While the OnePlus 5 does get a marginal specs bump this year, there have been some notable omissions. For example, the camera (thanks to the dual-camera setup) no longer supports Optical Image Stabilization, and there is still no water resistance capability or support for wireless charging. That said, these are some of the things that have been skipped to keep the costs down. Thankfully, the OnePlus 5 retains the Dash charging feature seen on the OnePlus 3 and the 3T. With Dash Charging, the user can charge the handset from zero to 60 percent in just 30 minutes! Truly a life-saver when you are travelling.

Other changes on the OnePlus 5 include the larger amount of RAM with the handset now sporting an incredible 8GB of RAM on the top-of-the-line version. There is also a 6GB RAM version that is slightly cheaper. The handset, however, still skips a microSD card slot for memory expansion.

While the physical appearance has changed, the OnePlus 5 still retains the OnePlus family look although the design looks quite similar to the iPhone 7 Plus – especially thanks to that twin camera bump at the rear. Let us now wait for the phone to be officially launched in India tomorrow and as far as we know, it will remain an Amazon.in exclusive
