Gaming accessories manufacturer Nyko Technologies, now an officially licensed partner of Samsung, has unveiled its first product for the Gear VR. It’s a wireless gaming controller called the PlayPad VR for the Gear VR with Controller. Samsung launched the Gear VR with Controller earlier this year and as the name suggests, it’s accompanied by a controller.
Nyko claims that its wireless controller for the Gear VR combines “console controller precision” in an easy-to-use form factor. The controller also happens to be compatible with previous versions of the Gear VR.
It features slider pads and buttons on the back for clickable sticks. Since the controller is built for the latest Android HID controller protocol, no mapping of buttons is required. It can connect to any Samsung smartphone over Bluetooth.
Nyko’s new controller itself can easily be clipped onto the front of the headset to replace the normal cover for easy storage and portability. It’s charged using a USB Type-C cable.
The Nyko PlayPad VR for Gear VR with Controller is going to be available later this year for $49.99. It’s going to be demonstrated for the first time ever at the annual Electronic Entertainment Expo which takes place from June 13-June 15, 2017 in Los Angeles.
