Nokia Confirms Android 8 Oreo for Nokia 3, Nokia 5, Nokia 6 and Nokia 8

Nokia marked its return to the smartphone market last year with HMD Global. This time around the Nokia phones promised a near stock Android UI and guaranteed security update. Previously it was the Google Nexus (and Pixel) lineup that leveraged its stock Android approach, and now some of the other OEM’s including Lenovo have joined the bandwagon.

True to its promise of timely update Nokia has now announced that all of its new Android powered phones including the Nokia 3, Nokia 5, Nokia 6 and the Nokia 8 will be getting an upgrade to the latest Android Oreo. The confirmation came from none other than the HMD Chief Product Officer Huho Sarvikas.

The Android 8.0 Oreo was opened for the developer preview back in March, and it was only recently that the final version was rolled out to the public. The first set of devices getting the Android Oreo include the Pixel and Nexus phones (though builds are yet to be rolled out.) That being said Nokia has not yet revealed an exact timeline for the Android Oreo roll out.

Android Oreo made its debut last month with new features like the Notification dots and the Picture-in-Picture mode. The UI changes include a better notification drawer and an ability to mod the icons without the need for a third party icon pack. Thanks to the tighter leash on background processes the RAM management has also gotten better. That’s. not all, the “Rescue Part” feature is also expected to save your smartphone from boot loops, a vicious problem that affected a majority of Nexus devices.

Nokia HMD now has an entire lineup for sale and the latest device added to the portfolio was the Nokia 8. The Nokia 8 stands tall as a premium Nokia offering that’s expected to dazzle us with its Carl Zeiss Camera offering. All of this on a stock Android translates to a bloatware free experience and timely updates as well. It would be interesting if the other phone makers pick the cue and start rolling out the updates in a timely manner.
