One of the most anticipated smartphones of what’s left of the year is Google’s second-generation Pixel lineup. While the handset has been making rounds on benchmark websites for quite some time now, we didn’t have a clear view of the design until now. Today, a new render has popped up which reveals almost everything about the larger – codenamed Taimen – Pixel XL’s aesthetics and build.
For starters, the Pixel XL will feature the much-rumored bezel-less panel up front with the edges wrapping around the edges. The handset retains last year’s Pixel language with the rear consisting of a glass section on top. The fingerprint scanner is now situated under the glass “window” instead of being embedded inside it, though. The camera opening has been substantially enlarged this time and unfortunately, doesn’t come with any dual-camera novelties. Another change is the absence of any sort of antenna lines on the back. The signature “G” logo is still present, however.
The front, though, is what will captivate you on first glance. The magnificent LG-made AMOLED 6-inch screen comes with an aspect ratio of 2:1. The rounded corners and almost no bezels on the sides give out a significantly more coherent look than the first-generation. This will also put the new Pixel XL on the same league as the Galaxy S8, LG G6 and most probably, the upcoming iPhone as well.
Furthermore, there are rumors stating that the Pixel XL will also come with a “squeezable” body just like HTC’s U11. It will be employed in a similar manner allowing you to perform actions based on various types of squeezes and pressures. Hopefully, though, Google will have a more integrated approach to the technology.
Taimen, the larger Pixel device is expected to come equipped with a 5.99-inch Display set at a resolution of 1440p. The storage option includes 128GB and needless to say, it will be powered by the latest Snapdragon 835 coupled with a 4GB of RAM. Google is expected to officially launch the new Pixel lineup sometime in October at their annual hardware event.
