PC hardware and gaming peripherals maker MSI has introduced a new graphics card based on the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti, dubbed the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Lightning Z. The LIGHTNING series graphics card combines MSI’s TRI-FROZR cooler with TORX 2.0 fans, SuperPipe technology and Military Class 4 components.
The TRI-FROZR cooler on the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Lightning Z graphics card uses two 10cm and one 9cm TORX 2.0 fans that combine the advantages of a traditional fan blade design and dispersion fan blade to generate high airflow while being “virtually silent”. Two 8mm SuperPipes are used to transfer heat to the fins, with MSI claiming up to 700W of heat dissipation.
As the name of the product suggests, MSI has equipped the card with numerous RGB LED lights. All of them can be customized easily with the company’s Gaming App using your smartphone or using the Mystic Light PC utility.
Coming to the specs, the MSI GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Lightning Z features a truly impressive 1607 MHz core clock and 1721 MHz boost clock in Lightning Mode. In Silent Mode, the clocks drop to 1480 MHz and 1582 MHz, respectively. The 11GB of GDDR5X memory too is overclocked slightly to 11120 MHz in Lightning and Gaming Modes. Being a high-end card with extreme gaming performance, it draws power using three 8-pin power connectors.
To enable extreme overclocking, the card comes with a special LN2 BIOS, allowing gamers to set overclocking records without making any special hardware modifications. Further aiding extreme overclocking is the card’s custom 10-layer PCB with 14 phases for GPU and 3 phases for memory. MSI has used the highest quality components inside the card, meeting the MIL-STD-810G standard.
MSI’s new GTX 1080 Ti card is expected to go on sale in July. While MSI is yet to confirm anything, we do expect the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Lightning Z to make its way to India in the coming weeks.
