Microsoft Xbox One X launched for $499.99, will ship from November 7

Microsoft revealed its most powerful Xbox One game console — Xbox One X — at the E3 2017 press conference today. So the Project Scorpio finally gets an official name and promises 4K HDR gaming experience at 60 frames per second. The new Xbox One X with 1TB storage and in black colour will start shipping at $499.99 from November 7 onwards.

Microsoft’s Xbox One X is set to compete with Sony’s PlayStation 4 PRO game console for the 4K HDR gaming. The Sony’s PS4 Pro manages 4K HDR games at 30 frames per second. Meanwhile, the Xbox One X promises to 4K HDR gaming at 60 frames per second for a smooth and fluid experience.

Calling it the world’s most powerful game console, the Xbox One X equips a 16nm AMD-made System-on-Chip as its heart. The SoC comprises of an eight-core CPU based on a custom AMD Jaguar architecture with all eight cores clocked a 2.3GHz. Along with that CPU, AMD has coupled a six teraflop GPU with 40 compute units clocked at 1172MHz.

The game console also supports AMD FreeSync Technology that will enable the console to match your display’s (TV or Monitor) refresh rate with that of a game to prevent screen tearing.

Out of the game console’s total 12GB of GDDR5 RAM, the games will have 9GB available exclusively, and the system will consume the rest 3GB. The system memory gets 6.8Gbps speeds through the 384-bit memory bus and offers 326 GB/s memory bandwidth. In short, the games will load quickly and run efficiently. For connectivity, the Xbox One X has two HDMI ports, two USB ports, one S/PDIF port and one Ethernet port at the back.

The Xbox One X will house a 1TB hard drive by default and offers a UHD Blu-ray optical drive. While enjoying 4K games, the One X will also extend support for Dolby Atmos and DTS:X audio formats. That means you can hook up your speakers to enjoy UHD Blu-ray titles as well as games.

Such a powerful hardware muscle requires a reliable cooling system, and thankfully no noisy large fans are included. The Xbox One X uses a Hovis vapour chamber cooling system which also keeps the noise levels low. However, the Xbox One X will consume 245 Watts power, and thereby, is one of the most power hungry Xbox One series consoles.

The hardware and a cooling system together make the console weigh 8.4 pounds. That’s heavier than the 7.8 pound Xbox One and the 6.4 pound Xbox One S. Microsoft touted that about 22 exclusive games meant for the Xbox One X will support the 4K resolution and run at 60 frames per second.

The Xbox One X will start shipping worldwide from November 7 onwards. However, there is no word on its India launch as yet.
