Matt Joyce saved fan from taking a baseball to the face while robbing a home run

Josh Reddick’s perfect philosophy on bunting nearly paid off during Thursday’s game against the Oakland Athletics. That was until Matt Joyce had a say in the matter.

Reddick pulled what looked to be a first-inning home run to right field, but it ended up being just a loud out when Joyce leaped way into the crowd to bring back the baseball.

Joyce made the catch and fell to the ground all before waiting a few seconds to reveal that he indeed caught the baseball. Reddick couldn’t even believe it.

Reddick tipped his cap to Joyce soon after. The best part of the grab, though, was how Joyce very clearly robbed a fan of the ball who thought he was going to make the catch with a hat. And assuming the fan wasn’t going to catch the ball with his hat, it very well was heading towards the face of the woman ducking for cover.

Matt Joyce is a hero.

Reddick will have to put a little more on the ball next time in order to live up to his epic shirt’s instructions.

Still great.
