If you recently purchased a Lenovo PHAB series device, we have some really bad news for you. Lenovo has officially confirmed that it will not be upgrading the PHAB series smartphones and tablets to Android 7.0 Nougat. While the Lenovo Phab and Phab Plus will remain stuck on Android 5.0 Lollipop, the Lenovo Phab 2, Phab 2 Plus, and the Phab 2 Pro will remain on Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
While it isn’t uncommon for Android OEMs to deny major upgrades to their entry- and mid-range smartphones, it does seem a little strange that the Phab 2 Pro is not going to receive the Android Nougat update. It was announced back in June last year but went on sale only in November. In India, the Phab 2 Pro was launched in January this year. What sets the Phab 2 Pro apart is that it happens to be the world’s first smartphone to feature Google’s Project Tango technology. It offers impressive hardware specifications as well and is priced closer to high-end smartphones from leading Android smartphone makers.
Currently, the Lenovo Phab 2 Pro is on sale in India for Rs.24,990, which is definitely not a small amount. While the Phab 2 and Phab 2 Plus are much more affordable, owners of the Phab 2 Pro are likely going to be a lot more disappointed with the news. In case you have been planning to purchase the Phab 2 Pro or any other Phab series device, you should think twice now. If you don’t care about software updates and just want that huge 6.4-inch Quad HD resolution display, you can still go ahead. However, if you do care about updates, you should look at other alternative phablets available in the same range.
