- No. 27 draft pick Kyle Kuzma shined in the Lakers’ win over the Trail Blazers in the NBA Summer League championship game, while Los Angeles’ No. 2 pick Lonzo Ball sat out injured.
- Kuzma finished with 30 points, 10 rebounds and won the game MVP. He averaged 21.9 points and 6.4 rebounds in seven Summer League games.
Afterwards, the Lakers rookie confidently posted the following message on Instagram:
You can call me anything but don’t forget to call me an MVP and a CHAMP #Lakeshow
A couple days after Kuzma posted that, NBA champion and Finals MVP Kevin Durant tweeted that he understands exactly how the 21-year-old feels.
Kuzma responded with only three 100 emojis, but imagine how he must’ve felt after reading that from KD — a player he has probably been watching for most of his life (Kuzma was about 11 years old when Durant entered the league).
Three-time champ Dwyane Wade has also made it known that he’s a huge fan of the 2017 draft class.
