Joel Embiid found a way around not being allowed to play soccer in Ultimate Champions match

The 76ers’ Joel Embiid took a trip to the UK this week to check out the Champions League final. He also kind of played in the Ultimate Champions match, a sort of All-Star game (check out the rosters here), that included the Rockets’ Clint Capela and the Knicks’ Carmelo Anthony.

I say “kind of played” because Embiid didn’t actually run around the field. He was just the goalie for a bit. Philly.com even got confirmation from the Sixers that Embiid would not play in the game — no injury risks on this trip.

Here’s video of the the 7-foot center in the goal:

In the above video, Embiid is asked which NBA player would make the best soccer player. He says “Joel Embiid.”

It’s easy to point out Embiid in the team photo.

Later in the day, he put on a “The Process” jersey.

As for the other NBA players, Capela was in uniform like Embiid, and he tweeted this, so it seems like he participated:

However, Anthony didn’t play and dressed in street clothes.

Additionally, Embiid spent some of his time in the UK riding down the street singing Mask Off.
