Joel Embiid came up empty on his attempt to catch Miguel Sano’s round-winning home run

Sixers center Joel Embiid was in Miami on Monday to take in the Home Run Derby at Marlins Park, and he found himself awfully close to the action.

Embiid was enjoying himself in the outfield Clevelander seats when Miguel Sano launched a homer within the reach of the 7-foot-2 Embiid. Embiid, who is wearing the pink shirt, came up just short as the ball appeared to deflect off his hand.

Embiid thought he had a chance of retrieving the ball on a deflection, but it wasn’t meant to be. And he seemed disappointed that he didn’t haul in what would have been an impressive barehanded catch.

He can’t be too upset, though, because Embiid did get a hold of a baseball.

Not to point out the staggering size of Embiid’s hand when compared to a baseball, but that dude would have a mean changeup. The baseball looks absolutely tiny. But I digress …

Luckily, Embiid trusted the process was able to leave the Home Run Derby with a souvenir. Aaron Judge would beat Sano in the final.
