Jimmie Johnson honors NASCAR legend with spectacular new helmet

With seven Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series championships — tied at the top with only Dale Earnhardt and Richard Petty — Jimmie Johnson’s incredible success already has him in the conversation for the best driver of all time.

Going into Sunday’s AAA 400 Drive for Autism, Johnson has 82 career wins — with two victories already this season — and is just one away from tying NASCAR Hall of Famer Cale Yarborough’s 83.

With 10 wins at Dover International Speedway — where he’ll race this weekend — the No. 48 Chevrolet driver has a good chance to claim a third checkered flag in 2017, and the awesome helmet perfectly honors the legendary driver he could tie.

Showing off the masterpiece from designer Jason Beam, the California native wrote: “Growing up in El Cajon I never imagined I would have a chance to tie Cale in wins. @BEAMdesigns did an amazing job honoring him.”
