Intel releases complete specifications of its new Core X-series HEDT processors

As rival AMD is gearing up to ship its latest Ryzen Threadripper processors to consumers around the world, Intel has released the final specifications of its Core X-series processor family. Along with confirming all the specs, Intel has also announced availability info for the new Core X-processors. The 12-core Intel Core i9-7920X will hit the shelves on August 28th, while the 14- to 18-core Intel Core X-series processors will begin shipping on September 25th.

The most powerful Core X-series processor is the beastly 18-core i9-7980XE.  The 18-core/36-thread processor features a base clock of 2.6 GHz and maximum Turbo frequency of up to 4.4 GHz. It includes 24.75MB of L3 cache, 44 PCI express 3.0 lanes, quad-channel DDR4-2666 memory support, and a 165W TDP rating.

Positioned right below the flagship Core i9-7980XE is the Core i9-7960X. It features 16 physical cores and 32 virtual threads. It comes with a 2.8 GHz base clock and up to 4.4 GHz Turbo Boost clock with Intel’s Turbo Boost Max Technology 3.0. Other core specs include 22MB of L3 cache, 44 PCI express 3.0 lanes, quad-channel DDR4-2666 memory support, and a 165W TDP rating.

The Intel Core i9-7940X (14-cores/28 threads) comes with a higher 3.1 GHz base clock and the same 4.4 GHz maximum Turbo Boost frequency as its two more expensive siblings. It is identical to the Core i9-7960X and Core i9-7980XE in terms of other key specs as well, with the exception of lower 19.25MB of L3 cache.

The 12-core/24-thread Core i9-7920X will be an impressive beast too. It features a base clock of 2.9 GHz and a maximum boost frequency of 4.4 GHz. It includes 16.5MB of L3 cache, 44 PCI express 3.0 lanes, quad-channel DDR4-2666 memory support, and a 140W TDP rating. While it may be relatively more affordable, it is still very expensive at $1,199 (Rs.76,400 approx). The most affordable Core i9 processor is the 10-core/20-thread Core i9-7900X. It boasts a 3.3 GHz base clock and a 4.5 GHz maximum turbo frequency. Other specs include 13.75MB of L3 cache, 44 PCI express 3.0 lanes, quad-channel DDR4-2666 memory support, and a 140W TDP.

All the Core X-series processors are housed in a new LGA2066 socket, which is compatible with X299 chipset based motherboards.
