Fashion house Emporio Armani is going to release its first Android Wear 2.0 smartwatches in September. The brand’s new Connected smartwatch models were showcased at the Milan Fashion Week recently, with singer Shawn Mendes as the spokesperson. Interestingly, the Armani smartwatch series is part of Fossil Group’s 300 line and will be available for purchase on the 24th of September through the Armani website, stores, and other partner retailers.
Similar to the Android Wear smartwatches from Fossil Group’s fashion brands, the Emporio Armani Android Wear 2.0 smartwatches will offer customizable watch faces to go with their classy exterior design. In addition to customizable watch faces, the upcoming smartwatches will offer consumers a choice of up to eight different interchangeable straps.
As for the specs, the Android Wear 2.0 device will be similar to most other smartwatches running on the platform. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2100 quad-core processor and features a circular AMOLED display. The same goes for the functionality as well. The Emporio Armani Connected touchscreen smartwatches will allow you to track all your activity, receive notifications on your smartphone, and control your music. However, you will not be able to make and receive calls using the Armani smartwatches, as they do not feature cellular connectivity. As far as compatibility is concerned, the upcoming smartwatches will work with both Android smartphones as well as iPhones.
While Armani has shared the exact release date for the new smartwatches, it hasn’t revealed any pricing info just yet. Going by the pricing of its hybrid smartwatches, it is likely that the upcoming touchscreen smartwatches will cost upwards of $400 at launch.
Fossil Group plans to launch no less than 300 new smartwatches this year, with some running on the Android Wear 2.0 platform and others being hybrid analogs.
