Apple’s new iPhone 8 Comes with the “Most Durable All-Glass Build”

After months of leaks and rumors, Apple finally made its eighth-generation iPhone – the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus official. The new phones bring back an all-glass build to the lineup and come with an incredibly powerful new six-core CPU called the A11 Bionic.

On the exterior, however, the new iPhone 8 doesn’t feature any design revamps. Apple says the all-glass build is the most durable in the industry. There’s aluminum on the sides and the company also mentions the glass goes through a seven-layer color process. There’s a new display that now includes Apple’s True Tone technology which is capable of altering the color and temperature of the screen based on the ambiance. Just as before, the iPhone 8 carries a 4.7-inch panel and the iPhone 8 Plus, a 5.5-inch one.

The new products also mark the company’s departure from Imagination Technologies as they are powered by an Apple-designed GPU which 30 percent faster than before. The A11 Bionic chip runs on six 64-bit cores, two of which are high-performance and the rest are high-efficiency cores. They also have a homegrown Image Signal Process that promises faster low light autofocus and better hardware noise reduction. Both of them are water proof and support Qi wireless charging too.

The camera arrangement now includes an upgraded 12-megapixel sensor that provides 83 percent more light and Optical Image Stabilization on both models. Unfortunately, the regular iPhone 8 still lacks a dual-camera setup. The iPhone 8 Plus comes with an additional 12-megapixel f/2.8 telephoto lens. There’s a new dual-camera feature called “Portrait Lighting” which essentially senses the depth of the scene in real time and reworks the lighting, the effect of which you can customize as well.  Apple also added a new video encoder which results in quicker video frame rates. This enables the iPhone 8 to capture 4K videos in 60fps and 1080 slow-mo in 240fps.

With the iPhone 8, Apple is betting big on Augmented Reality as well. The new phones feature new gyroscopes and sensors which allow the camera to calibrate perfectly with the real world, as per Apple. Both the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus support LTE Advanced and Bluetooth 5.0.

The iPhone 8 starts at $699, while the iPhone 8 Plus at $799. Both of these will be available starting from September 22nd, preorders for which begin from September 15th
