At Computex 2017, AMD teased its Ryzen Threadripper processor lineup aimed at the HEDT market. The company today revealed more details regarding the Threadripper lineup, including pricing as well as availability details.
While AMD had talked about the 16-core Threadripper 1950X and the 12-core Threadripper 1920X processors at Computex, it surprised everyone today with the 8-core Threadripper 1900X. The most affordable Ryzen Threadripper processor, the Threadripper 1900X comes with eight physical cores and 16 threads with a base clock of 3.8 GHz. Its boost clock is listed at 4.0 GHz. In terms of price, the chip has been priced at $549 (Rs.35,000 approx), which is definitely very competitive. As revealed earlier, Threadripper 1950X will cost $999 (Rs.64,000 approx) while the Threadripper 1920X will cost $799 (Rs.51,000 approx).
In terms of performance, AMD claims the flagship Threadripper 1950X delivers up to 55% higher performance under heavy workloads when compared to the identically-priced Intel Core i9-7900X. For the same price, AMD’s TR 1950X offers 60% higher cores, 68% higher cache, the same number of DDR4 memory channels, and 36% higher PCIe lanes. Even the less expensive Threadripper 1920X is claimed to deliver up to 19% higher performance with some applications, thanks mainly to the higher number of cores.
AMD has also made sure that a robust ecosystem is ready at launch for the new Threadripper family. Apart from a wide range of motherboards based on the X399 chipset, AMD confirmed that a number of cooling solutions will be available from most leading manufacturers. Apart from air-coolers, liquid cooling solutions will also be available companies such as Corsair, Arctic, EKWB, NZXT, Thermaltake, Cryorig, and EVGA. Air cooling solutions will be available from Arctic, Noctua, and Coolermaster. Consumers who prefer getting pre-built PCs from reputed manufacturers will be able to purchase Ryzen Threadripper PCs exclusively from Alienware.
AMD will begin shipping the Ryzen Threadripper 1950X and 1920X CPUs from August 10th onwards, while the Threadripper 1900X will be available on August 31st. Pre-orders for the processors have already started today in most major markets around the world.
