The rivalry between Arizona and Arizona State is one of the more underrated rivalries nationally, and to the surprise of no one, Adidas and Nike are rivals. We just don’t see that corporate competitiveness shift into Twitter trash talk too often.
That happened on Wednesday when the Wildcats unveiled their new Nike football uniforms.
An ASU fan account thanked Adidas for not giving ASU uniforms like Arizona. And well, the official Twitter account for Adidas football used that as an opportunity to blast Nike’s work.
Well, that escalated quickly.
The Arizona Wildcats have long been sponsored by Nike while the Arizona State Sun Devils made their switch to Adidas back in 2015 after too being a Nike school.
Arizona’s original tweet read, “New season. New look.” So, Adidas just turned “look” into a trash emoji. Twitter did not see that one coming at all.
Hey, if teams can talk trash, why can’t brand accounts? Nike, unfortunately, did not fire back at Adidas on Twitter.
