A pitcher threw a baseball at players during an ugly minor-league brawl

Bryce Harper’s brawl with Giants pitcher Hunter Strickland captured the baseball world’s attention on Monday, but it wasn’t even the most intense brawl of the weekend.

During Sunday’s game between the Class-A West Michigan Whitecaps and Dayton Dragons, a massive brawl broke out after a disagreement between baserunner Jose Siri and Whitecaps shortstop Danny Pereria. Siri was upset after Pereria appeared to step on his foot and say something.

When the fight escalated, one Whitecaps pitcher did something we’ve never seen during a baseball brawl: he threw a baseball at the Dayton players.

At around the 25-second mark, you can see Whitecaps reliever Eduardo Jimenez launching a baseball into the skirmish. Jimenez, who joined the fight from the bullpen and was wearing a warmup shirt, had to be physically forced off the field.

The Midwest League is still investigating the brawl, but the league doesn’t announce its own suspensions.
